UPDATES TO TRAINING

TEAMS PLAYING AWAY

The following team will be away this weekend:

Sunday 22nd October

Girls Contact U14-U18 are taking part in the B.A.C Impact 7s competition organised by Aonyx on Sunday so they will not be at training. Girls Contact U12 will be training as normal with Coach Tim.

BOOT SWAP

We will be holding a boot swap at training this weekend, Saturday 22nd October. If you have any boots at home that no longer fit, just bring them in and swap them for a pair that do! Any boots that are left over will be given to charity.

Please don’t forget to give the boots a clean before you bring them down, and also tie the laces together to make it easier for them to remain a pair!

SOCKS AND SHORTS FOR SALE

We have a few socks and shorts which will be available for sale this Saturday at training. We only have a few pieces, and in limited sizes, but drop by the F&B Hut and see if we have the size you are looking for. Socks are $15 and shorts are $30. We will accept cash and cheques only.

We also have a few 10th Anniversary polo shirts left over in a variety of sizes. These will be for sale for $16.

IMPORTANT – MICROSPORIDIA HEALTH ADVISORY

With the recent very wet and muddy conditions, we would like to remind parents, and players, to ensure they wash their faces with water after playing in muddy conditions.

Microsporidia are spore-forming single-cell intracellular parasites. Since the early 2000s, microsporidia keratoconjunctivitis has been increasingly reported in Singapore, mostly after eye contact with wet soil or mud during outdoor activities. The main presenting signs and symptoms are eye redness, pain/foreign body sensation, photosensitivity and blurred vision.

All players who have been in contact with soil or mud should maintain good personal hygiene. We would encourage the children to bring extra water to wash their faces if they come into contact with mud, and to use different towels for the face and body immediately after training. If your child will use them, you may wish to keep eye drops in your children’s bag so they can apply them after training.

Do seek early medical consultation (e.g. an eye specialist) should your child experience symptoms such as itchy and painful red eyes with discharge occurring from two days up to three weeks after being in contact with soil or mud.

WEBINAR: DO I NEED TO BE WORRIED ABOUT MARKET VOLATILITY

This year a number of macro-economic shocks have led to increased volatility in investment markets. The world has shifted from an extended period of low inflation and low interest rates to a situation which sees both these key factors more volatile, affecting asset prices across all major investment markets.

Join Huw Wedlock, Director at The Fry Group, alongside guest speakers Emma McHugh, Investment Strategist at Invesco, and Duncan Macinnes, Investment Director at Ruffer, for a discussion about the current market environment and a review of the investment risk and rewards available to investors.

What can I learn from this webinar?

  • A summary of the investment risks that have built up during 2022
  • How Investment Managers are dealing with those risks
  • What opportunities may lie ahead from an investment perspective

There will also be time for Q&A and we encourage you to pre-submit any questions you’d like explored by our panel.

Wednesday 26 October 2022

Register here: UK 10am, Europe 11am, Dubai 1pm, Singapore/Hong Kong 5pm

Please feel free to forward this invitation to friends, colleagues or family members if you feel it would be of interest to them. We look forward to you joining the webinar.

JRCS FESTIVAL OF NATIONS 2022

The Festival of Nations, a junior rugby 7 or 10 a-side fun competition, will be held on Sunday 4th of December 2022. It is organised by JRCS and hosted by Tanglin Rugby Club at Turf City. It is a chance for players from all clubs and schools to come together and celebrate another successful year.

When

Sunday, December 04, 2022

Location

Tanglin Rugby Club pitchesTurf Club Road, Turf City , Singapore  287994

The Festival is open to boys from year of birth 2005 to 2017, and girls from 2004 to 2017. All players are selected to play for 1 of 12 national teams (AUS, ENG, FIJ, FRA, IRE, JAP, NZ, SGP, SCO, SAF, USA, ARG) in an age group specific competition.

FOLLOW THIS LINK IN ORDER TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR THE FESTIVAL OF NATIONS – SIGN UP HERE

There are no guarantees on which team you’ll end up with, as part of the fun is not knowing until you get there on the day and meet your new team-mates. BUT, the earlier you register the more chance you’ll be with one of the 3 teams you select as part of this registration process.

The entry fee is $55 which buys you a custom made ‘national’ team shirt to keep, a great day playing with new friends, and a chance to round out the rugby year in style!

This event has been a great success in the last few years and we look forward to more of the same this year. Please do sign up early at the registration link above. As you do so, parents, please consider checking the box to volunteer as a national coach.

Lastly, a shout out to our very generous sponsors Singapore Life, Chocolate Finance and Canvas. Many thanks for your continued and awesome support for junior rugby in Singapore.

KIT FOR GAMES AND TOURNAMENTS

If your team is taking part in games, please ensure that your child is wearing their full and up-to-date kit. They must wear the latest playing jersey/touch top that they were given which have our sponsors latest logos on them. Please keep the old tops with the old logos just for training.

Our sponsors have generously stood by us despite the trying times of the last 2 years, and we need to honour their contribution and support by wearing the tops that they have sponsored for us.
