Welcome back! We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to training this weekend Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January. We hope you all had a very good Christmas break and are looking forward to getting back on the pitch for a new year of rugby and touch!

As we announced in our end of year letter, works are underway upgrading the fields and clubhouse at Dempsey. This has involved lifting all the turf so they can lay proper drainage down underneath to reduce the flooding on the field. Unfortunately, with all the heavy rain over the last few weeks, the work has been severely delayed, and the Dempsey fields will not be ready until the end of January. We therefore will be temporarily holding training on the Padang until at least the end of January.

We realize that the logistics might be a bit more difficult for many people, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, however hopefully the experience of training on the fabulous Padang will make up for that!

This weekend we will be using the rugby pitch on the SCC Padang, in addition to a smaller area alongside Connaught Avenue. From next weekend, we are hoping that we will also have use of the SRC (Singapore Recreation Club) pitch as well.

The pitch allocation for the squads this weekends are included below. Training times remain as normal. Don’t forget that as we have entered a new year, and our new rugby year, all the squads have moved up an age group. For clarity, the squads and training times for this rugby year are included at the bottom of this newsletter.

HAVE YOU LEFT?

IMPORTANT – MICROSPORIDIA HEALTH ADVISORY

With the recent very wet and muddy conditions, we would like to remind parents, and players, to ensure they wash their faces with water after playing in muddy conditions.

Microsporidia are spore-forming single-cell intracellular parasites. Since the early 2000s, microsporidia keratoconjunctivitis has been increasingly reported in Singapore, mostly after eye contact with wet soil or mud during outdoor activities. The main presenting signs and symptoms are eye redness, pain/foreign body sensation, photosensitivity and blurred vision.

All players who have been in contact with soil or mud should maintain good personal hygiene. We would encourage the children to bring extra water to wash their faces if they come into contact with mud, and to use different towels for the face and body immediately after training. If your child will use them, you may wish to keep eye drops in your children’s bag so they can apply them after training.

Do seek early medical consultation (e.g. an eye specialist) should your child experience symptoms such as itchy and painful red eyes with discharge occurring from two days up to three weeks after being in contact with soil or mud.

KIT

If your team is taking part in games or tournaments, we would kindly ask that you ensure that your child is wearing their full and up-to-date kit. They must wear the latest playing jersey/touch tops which have our sponsors latest logos on them. Please keep the old tops with the old logos just for training.

We need to honour our sponsors contribution and support by wearing the tops that they have sponsored for us.
