Our Coaches

Meet our Head Coaches and the Coaching Team

At the SCC Rugby Academy we are immensely proud of our team of dedicated and vastly experienced coaches, many of whom are current playing members of the SCC – providing excellent role models for the boys and girls to follow and emulate.

Head Coaches

The Academy Coaching Team is lead by our three Head Coaches – Suhaimi Amran, Bryan Lim and John Brake. They are responsible overall for playing matters, including the recruitment, development and management of players and coaches.

Their aims and ambitions support the Constitution of the Academy, promoting coaching and sporting excellence in an inclusive, safe and enjoyable club atmosphere, with the ultimate aim of being consistently recognised as one of the leading Junior Rugby Clubs in Asia.

We hope you agree on how lucky our boys and girls are to have the benefit of their experience:

Background

Suhaimi “Su” Amran joined the SCC Academy in 2015. Suhaimi has played rugby at a very high level representing Singapore in the Men’s 15’s squad, and playing in Singapore Men’s 7s side from 2005 to 2013. Among his rugby accolades is a bronze medal at the SEA Games 7s in 2007, Asian top point scorer 2011-2013, and a nomination for Singapore Sportsman of the year 2012. He plays fly half and scrum half and has been playing for the SCC rugby section for 11 years. Su is also involved in adult coaching for the SCC rugby section but equally enjoys inspiring the up and coming young players at SCC Rugby Academy.

Bryan Lim is a familiar face at the Academy and has been with the club since it began in 2011. He fell in love with the game of rugby while a pupil at the Anglo Chinese School (Barker Road) and has been playing ever since.

He was awarded a place at the Anglo Chinese Junior College through Direct School Admission for Rugby. Bryan represented Singapore U16 in their Northern Territory Australia tour in 2005 and played for the Singapore Select side in Sabah in 2014.

Bryan joined the SCC club as a Junior Sports Member in 2005 when he was 15 and has already played more than 100 games for SCC rugby section and is still going! His second home (maybe his first?) is the rugby pitch and when he’s not playing he’s coaching!

John Brake is our most recent addition to the head coaching team joining the Academy in September 2017, relocating from England to Singapore. John attended Millfield School in the UK where he represented England at under-16 and under-18 levels, progressing to England under-20 side.

After leaving school he turned professional, joining Northampton Saints and latterly Birmingham and Solihull. He made his debut for the England national sevens team in San Diego in 2007 and after that featured regularly for the sevens side playing in 16 IRB Sevens tournaments by the end of the 2010–2011 season, at which point he accepted a central contract.

John was named captain of England Sevens for the 2012 European Sevens Grand Prix. John is excited to be in Singapore and coaching SCC kids and we are excited to have him as part of the Academy – you will see him active on the pitch on most Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings.
