Contact us

Started in 2012

The SCC Rugby Academy began in January 2012, inspired by a group of rugby players from the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) adult Rugby Section who wanted to give their kids the best coaching experience. Year on year our Rugby and Touch sections have grown enormously.

We share expertise and benefit from talented coaches many who still play rugby for the adult section of the SCC and some who regularly play or coach for the Singapore national team, making us stand out as a junior rugby club in Singapore.

One of the goals of the founders of the Academy was to provide a unique transition from junior to adult rugby. Having just passed our ten year anniversary, we are proud to say our U19 squad now achieves that goal.

INCLUSIVE

From a handful of families and rugby players who started the club we have grown to more than 600 members and pride ourselves on our dedicated coaches and friendly atmosphere.

We are an inclusive club where every player matters.

We welcome experienced and new players who arrive in Singapore and we encourage talented players from local schools with our unique scholarship scheme.

Our club is a diverse mix with our players attending nearly 100 different local and international schools across Singapore.

We aim to provide a life long rugby experience from U4s to Colts (U19) and onto adult teams at SCC.

LOCATION & Days

Rugby training is at SCC Dempsey ground on Saturday mornings and Touch and Girls’ Contact rugby on Sunday mornings. Rugby on Saturday is a mixed session (girls & boys) till U13 when rugby groups then become boys only, along SRU rules. Girls who wish to continue with contact rugby transition to Sunday mornings.

All U10s and above can attend a Thursday evening training session.

Touch trains at Dempsey on Sunday mornings and is officially a mixed training, although girls make up the majority of players.

Occasionally we train on the historic Padang in front of the Singapore Cricket Club itself, one of the most stunning rugby pitches the world. Our annual 7s Tournament takes place here.

GETTING TO THE FIELD

Tournaments & Junior League

SCC Rugby Academy takes part in all the major tournaments in Singapore (from under 5 and above) and the Junior League (JRCS), under 10 and above, and Touch tournaments.

As  a whole club we tour annually to Kuala Lumpur to take part in the KL Tigers tournament. This is the highlight of our rugby year, with a hectic and fun time on and off the pitch!

We occasionally take sides to Hong Kong and join up with other clubs to tour to Perth or other destinations.

The proof of the pudding is always in the eating and we encourage you to get in touch and arrange a visit or a try out (or several) for your child or teenager.

SCC 7s

We run our own Rugby 7s and Touch tournament in October, which takes place on the Padang. We tour to KL and take teams to various destinations such as Perth, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Running of SCC Rugby Academy

The Academy is steered by a small team of directors and a committee of volunteers who regularly meet to discuss the running and direction of the club. We are a not for profit club, all of our money goes back into rugby.

We enjoy an annual Academy social event for parents usually held at Singapore Cricket Club and we hold bake sales and collect old kit for a charity in Manila, the Cararoo Foundation, supporting disadvantaged children by funding their education and enabling them to participate in after school activities like rugby.

We encourage all parents to get involved to whatever extent they wish.
